Virge Cornelius’ Mathematical Circuit Training: PreCalculus/Trigonometry Bundle

Department

FULLY FUNDED || THANK YOU

In my Calculus classes, several of my assignments are in the “circuit” format. (Explanation of the format here.) In a circuit assignment, answers to each question are found elsewhere in the assignment. Your answer to number 1 leads you to a problem somewhere else in the assignment, which then becomes number 2. The answer to number 2 leads you to number 3, and so on. One benefit of this assignment format is that it helps students self-identify when they’ve made a mistake. If a student doesn’t find the answer to a problem elsewhere in the circuit, the student then realizes a mistake has been made - all without depending on an answer key or other online resources (resources which can sometimes circumvent productive struggle). I have used circuits in my Calculus classes, and I think that our Pre-Calculus students also would benefit from having some of their assignments in this format.
