Lansing, MI, March 10, 2021 Lansing Catholic High School celebrates the appointment of Jim Baker as the new head varsity football coach. Jim has served in the varsity football program for the last 28 years as the Offensive Line Head Coach. In 2013 he expanded his role and became the JV Head Coach for the Cougars as well. Jim’s commitment to the Lansing Catholic football program is best demonstrated through his devotion to and development of the Junior Cougar football organization, which he established in 1995. For over 25 years, the Junior Cougars’ program objectives have remained constant: to advance technical skills and to instill the values of teamwork and sportsmanship in our area’s young athletes as a means by which to prepare them for success in high school. Based on this outstanding record of service to the football program and to the entire school community, Lansing Catholic High School welcomes Jim Baker and eagerly anticipates continued success.
In announcing the hire, Athletic Director Brian Wolcott said, “ I am extremely grateful for the commitment of our hiring committee. We assembled a rather large and diverse group; their input, time and wisdom was much appreciated. We had several excellent candidates, but ultimately the school administration selected Jim Baker to continue building upon and improving our cherished football tradition. I have enjoyed working with Jim and believe our program is in excellent hands moving forward.” Upon learning he was the school’s choice to be the next head football coach, Jim said, “I am excited to continue the success that Coach Ahern brought to the Cougar football program.”
Jim is a graduate of Grand Ledge High School and continued his education at Western Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Jim is the CEO of Innovare, a corporate office furniture dealer located in Lansing.
