Lansing Catholic High School Athletics honors the victims and sacrifices made by those lost on 9/11 in a week of tribute

LANSING, Mich. (September 11, 2024 & September 13, 2024): Lansing Catholic High School is proud to announce the inaugural 9/11 Sled Push: A Hero’s Tribute, a unique and powerful event dedicated to honoring the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001, while celebrating the resilience and strength of our community. The event will take place on September 11, 2024 at Cougar Stadium at 3:30pm.

The 9/11 Sled Push combines physical endurance with a heartfelt tribute, inviting participants to push weighted football sleds in a symbolic effort to remember and honor the bravery and sacrifice of first responders and victims of 9/11. Sleds will be pushed 3,000 yards in honor of the approximated number of lives lost in the 9/11 attack. This event aims to unite individuals through a shared experience that embodies the spirit of perseverance and solidarity.

“It’s okay if you’re uncomfortable, it’s okay if it is hard. This is about rising to meet a moment of discomfort and hardship and facing it head on,” said Kenny Goodrich, LCHS Athletic Director. “This is an opportunity to face that discomfort and that challenge and reflect on the people who gave their lives that day. After 9/11 we said, ‘Always Remember,’ so this is how we remember the sacrifices made by first responders and the challenges overcome by everyday people who stepped up in an impossible moment and helped each other.”

We encourage everyone to join us in this meaningful event, which not only pays homage to the heroes of 9/11 but also fosters a sense of community and resilience. Students, staff, and members of the LCHS community are encouraged to attend and participate.

To follow up this event, on September 13, 2024, Lansing Catholic High School will proudly host its annual Camo for a Cause football game.  This unique football game will feature players wearing  their American flag jerseys.  These commemorative jerseys are worn to foster the sense of patriotism that brought all Americans together in the wake of 9/11, and to show support for the men and women continuing to serve.

In the same spirit, the student section will be wearing camouflage, reinforcing the theme of solidarity with our troops. The event aims to promote patriotism, community, and supporting our armed forces.  Camo For A Cause is more than just a football game—it’s an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the values of service and sacrifice. The event raises awareness and funds for this year’s chosen cause, the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, which is dedicated to building a lasting tribute to those who have served in the War on Terror.
