Here at Lansing Catholic the school has a wonderful staff and faculty that sees almost everything.

But one of them sees more than most.

Mr. Randee Bonk, head of maintenance, is always looking out for the school and making sure that it is in its best shape. He sees things that students do outside of the classrooms, and he makes a connection with kids in a way that isn’t just education based.

Over the years he has seen a lot of change within LCHS.

“I love all of the young people here and how amazing they are, that’s why I work here,” Bonk said.

Bonk looks out for all of the students and staff here at LCHS because he cares about each person individually. From keeping an eye on security cameras to making sure that everyone goes out of the exit in the parking lot after school, Mr. Bonk is here to keep everyone in line. He also has his own idea of what makes up this close knit community.

“To me, school is a community and here at Lansing Catholic this school is a community that brings people together with similar ideas,” Bonk said.

While spending time in the military Mr. Bonk was able to set up schools on bases. Doing this he set up communities and to him that is what a school is. Specifically, here at LCHS he has the duty of expanding our community through updating places such as the chapel and the sports complexes.

“Unfortunately, I’m also kind of the bearer of bad news,” Bonk said. “Everyone has these things that they want to do, but they don’t always understand what it will cause or what you have to do to achieve it.”

Mr. Bonk may seem like he has too many rules, but really he is here to keep us all safe in an environment where we can better learn and grow. Without the help of Mr. Bonk the school wouldn’t be where it is today and where it is going in the future.

Besides the fun part of working here at LCHS, Mr. Bonk does have some interesting stories to tell.

“One of the worst messes I’ve had to clean up was a couple years back when someone made a mess all over the bathroom and spread it around,” Bonk said.

While experiencing some not so fun jobs to clean up and deal with, Mr. Bonk still sticks with everyone here at Lansing Catholic. He is the reason we have the wonderful facilities here, such as the stadium, gymnasium, and the chapel.

“The biggest project that I’ve taken on while being here is the stadium,” Bonk said. “I was given the plans in October and was told to finish it by March, I even had to grow grass in the winter with heaters.”

It may seem like there couldn’t possibly be any more projects for Mr. Bonk to take on, considering the school is in great shape, but there has been recent news of some refreshments to the chapel.

“Father Joe has made new plans to make the chapel a more comfortable place for people to worship,” Bonk said. “I’m likely ready to take them on over the summer.”

Overall, Mr. Bonk uses his virtue of service to better grow his faith and the faith of everyone here at Lansing Catholic. Next time you see him, be sure to say thanks.
