Lansing Catholic Honors 9/11 with Annual Sled Push
Two sleds, 2,997 yards, one community committed to never forgetting
In honor of 9/11, Lansing Catholic High School held its second annual Sled Push on Wednesday. Students, faculty, and staff came together to remember the 2,997 lives lost 24 years ago today. Two football workout sleds—representing the Twin Towers—were pushed one yard for each life lost, a powerful act of unity and remembrance.
“Our goal is to make sure our students understand the significance of 9/11, even if they weren’t alive when it happened,” said Athletic Director, Kenny Goodrich. “This event gives us a tangible way to honor the victims and to live out our promise to never forget. It’s also a reminder of the strength, courage, and patriotism that brought our nation together in the face of tragedy—and the freedoms we continue to value and protect.”
President Dominic Iocco added, “As a Catholic community, we know that prayer and action go hand in hand. The sled push is not only a reminder of the lives lost, but also a call for us to live in hope, peace, and faith trusting in God’s presence even in the face of tragedy.”
Looking ahead, tomorrow night’s Cougar football game will be dedicated to honoring the Armed Forces. We thank all active military members and veterans for their service and sacrifice. The team will wear their USA jerseys, and all active military and veterans will receive free admission to the game.
