End of Year Senior Events & Information

Exam Waivers:

Senior exam waivers will be distributed during lunches on May 3. Only year-long classes only may be waived.  An exam waiver may be withheld due to discipline issues or if a family has outstanding fees or tuition.

“A” average test policy:

If a senior student has an “A” average (89.5%+) in a year-long class, he/she does not have to take the exam.  This privilege may be revoked at the principal’s discretion should disciplinary or excessive absences become an issue.  Projects/papers for final exams in a class cannot be waived and the “A” average policy does not apply.  Exams must be taken in all semester classes.

The exam days are listed above.

Senior Appreciation Mass & Brunch

May 11, 8 a.m. at Lansing Catholic HS

This is a special, all-school farewell Mass to our seniors.  Parents attending this event should gather in the auditorium with their student by 7:45 a.m.  Seniors and parents will process into the gym and be seated in chairs on the gym floor.  Seniors may dress up for this Mass keeping in mind school rules about modesty and respect.  The brunch will take place immediately after Mass in the cafeteria. Since there is limited seating in the cafeteria, only seniors and parents may attend the brunch. Additional seating for brunch will be available in the library if necessary.  Siblings are not invited to attend the brunch and should expect to remain in class.  Seniors may leave school after they are finished with brunch.

Graduation practice & senior check-out

May 16, 8 a.m. at Lansing Catholic HS

Seniors must report to the auditorium by 8:00 a.m. for graduation practice.  This is mandatory!  Any senior not at graduation practice will not be allowed to participate in graduation on May 21.  If your child has a job, please advise him/her to request this day off of work.

Senior check-out will begin immediately after graduation practice is finished.  This process includes the following:

  1. Locker Clean-Out
  2. Library Check-Out
  3. Verification by the tuition office that all fees are paid in full.

After these steps are completed, students are given their graduation gowns.  Please remember that all fees including tuition need to be paid in order for your child to participate in the graduation ceremony. Students should be done by 11 a.m. on this day. (For those seniors who will take the AP English Language and Composition exam, they will need to check out in the afternoon before 3 p.m. and they are excused from graduation practice.)

Baccalaureate Mass & Award Ceremony

May 16, 7 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave, Lansing, MI

Seniors must be at church by 6:30 p.m.  They need to wear the graduation gown that was picked up earlier in the day at senior check-out, no cap is needed.  Appropriate attire for this evening is a shirt & tie for the young men and dresses or dress slacks for the young ladies. There will be a class photo taken on the steps of the church at 6:45 p.m., and then the class will assemble for the procession into church. (Copies of the class photo may be ordered directly from Okemos Studio).  We will adhere to this timeline and we will not wait for late students!  The award ceremony will begin immediately after Mass.  There will be a reception in the Parish Hall after the award ceremony is finished.

Legacy Student Ceremony

May 20, 1 p.m. in the LCHS St. John Paul the Great Chapel

This is a private ceremony to recognize the seniors whose parents are also alumni of Lansing Catholic High School. This program is sponsored by the LCHS Alumni Association and is open to seniors and alumni parents of LCHS. Please contact me if either parent is an alum of LCHS or one of our heritage schools.  This will help us ensure accurate information in the graduation booklet.  Invitations to the program will be mailed to legacy students.

Graduation

May 20, 2 p.m. in the LCHS Gymnasium

Seniors need to report to the auditorium by 1:30 p.m.  Attire for this day should be similar to what was worn at Baccalaureate.  Students will need their cap & tassel, and should wear any awards that were given at Baccalaureate.  Graduation starts promptly at 2 p.m. We will not wait for late students. Please encourage your child to allow for enough time to park and get to school on time.

There is no limit to the number of guests a senior may have at graduation.  Seating will be in the bleachers.  We have a small reserved section on the gym floor for wheelchair needs & the elderly. We will begin taking reservations for these spaces beginning May 7.  For reservations, contact: cecilia.draminski@lansingcatholic.org or 517-267-2105.

A note about graduation gowns:

Since we have custom rental graduation gowns, we will need to collect the gowns after the graduation ceremony is concluded.  Seniors should report to the cafeteria after the ceremony, to return the gown and receive their diploma insert.  During the ceremony, seniors will be given only the diploma cover, the insert is held until the graduation gown is returned to the school.

If you would like your child to participate in a senior parish Mass that is scheduled after graduation you will need to pick up the gown in the main office prior to when you will need the gown.  Failure to return the gown will result in a hold of the final transcript.
